In 2010, Kelsey was sent by her grandparents through Park Place Church of God in Anderson, Indiana to Kampala, Uganda for two weeks. The African soil stuck between her toes, the overwhelming love stuck deep within her soul, and a little fire began burning in her bones.

She continued to return several times over the next few years, as the relationships were kindled and the love continued growing. In 2015, she made the decision to take up residence in Karuma, Uganda—her home away from home. In January 2016, she moved her residence and partnered with an organization called Restoration Gateway, where she remained and served faithfully for two years.

During that time, her main focus was in education and literacy enhancement. In January 2018, she felt her mission was shifting slightly, but still focused on advancements in education. She now partners with an organization called Read for Life. The main focus is implementing better literacy and general education to the people and schools of the community.

Read for Life is working to support an incredible staff of Ugandan teachers who are committed to training and supporting their colleagues to ensure all children leave the early years of their education with the reading and writing skills needed to engage in expansive learning.

When Ugandan teachers create a fertile foundation for the educational lives of Ugandan children, we see them grow in their potential as readers, thinkers, and learners and can only imagine the future stories they may live out for themselves, their communities, country, and world.
